Based on the 1972 crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 575, the film explores the story of the survivors of a plane crash in the Andes Mountains. The film explores their survival and the trials they face as they face life and death in one of the most hostile environments in the world. Within the film, the theme of hope and the power it can give people is greatly explored. It is shown throughout the film that Hope is what pushes people to keep going and, in this case, survive.
